Eligibility checklist

  • Class 12 (or appearing) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English.
  • Minimum age 17 by 31 December of the admission year.
  • Minimum aggregate in PCB and qualifying percentile rules are set by the NMC and stated in the bulletin.

Pace and marking

  • Time budget. 180 min ÷ 180 questions = 60 s each. Biology at about 40 s per question leaves Physics close to 90 s.
  • When to attempt. Read every Biology statement-type question fully. Attempt when you can rule out at least one option; leave it if you are choosing between all four.
  • The arithmetic. With +4 / −1, a blind guess averages +0.25 but with high variance; ruling out one option lifts it to about +0.67, and ruling out two to +1.5. Your own accuracy on “unsure” answers is the real guide.

Tips from জয়যাত্ৰা

  • Read NCERT biology line by line, more than once. Statement-type questions often turn on a single word.
  • Pace: biology at about 40 seconds a question leaves physics close to 90.
  • Attempt when you can rule out at least one option; leave it if you are choosing between all four.
  • Recall cards are made for NEET. Diagrams, names, functions and exceptions are exactly what spaced recall locks in.
  • In joyjatra Go, a NEET goal gives you physics and chemistry drills; pair them with your NCERT biology reading.

A phase-by-phase plan

  1. NCERT foundation · Months 1–4

3–4 h a day. Read one Biology NCERT chapter twice: once for understanding, once marking lines. Make recall cards for diagrams, examples and exceptions. Physics concepts with NCERT examples; Chemistry NCERT exercises. Weekend 45-question Biology test.

  2. Practice depth · Months 5–8

4–5 h a day. Chapter-wise MCQs after each NCERT reading. Physics numericals daily (20 a day) to build speed. Organic reaction maps and inorganic NCERT tables. Track accuracy by chapter; revisit any chapter under 70%.

  3. Full syllabus mocks · Months 9–11

5–6 h a day. Two full 180-question mocks a week at the 2 pm–5 pm slot. Re-read Biology NCERT in full every 4–6 weeks. Mistake notebook review every Sunday.

  4. Final weeks · Last 3–4 weeks

Steady. Alternate-day mocks, NCERT Biology one last full read. OMR filling practice: bubble as you go, not at the end. Rest, sleep and document check (admit card, ID, photo).

Common traps

  • Over-investing in physics at the cost of biology
  • Reading biology from summaries instead of NCERT
  • Not practising on OMR sheets
