02 · THE PAPER
Exam pattern, section by section
NEET UG paper
All questions are compulsory. Biology (Botany + Zoology) carries 360 of the 720 marks.
| Section | Questions | Marks | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Physics | 45 | 180 | Usually the slowest section |
| Chemistry | 45 | 180 | NCERT-heavy inorganic and organic |
| Botany | 45 | 180 | NCERT line-by-line |
| Zoology | 45 | 180 | Human physiology carries high weight |
| Total | 180 | 720 | 180 minutes |
03 · TIME & MARKS
Pace target and an honest guessing rule
Read every Biology statement-type question fully. Attempt when you can rule out at least one option; leave it if you are choosing between all four.
With +4 / −1, a blind guess averages +0.25 but with high variance; ruling out one option lifts it to about +0.67, and ruling out two to +1.5. Your own accuracy on “unsure” answers is the real guide.

05 · DESIGN
Preparation plan
A 12-month NCERT-first plan. Biology is read every single day; Physics and Chemistry rotate.
- PHASE 1
NCERT foundation
- Read one Biology NCERT chapter twice: once for understanding, once marking lines.
- Make recall cards for diagrams, examples and exceptions.
- Physics concepts with NCERT examples; Chemistry NCERT exercises.
- Weekend 45-question Biology test.
- PHASE 2
Practice depth
- Chapter-wise MCQs after each NCERT reading.
- Physics numericals daily (20 a day) to build speed.
- Organic reaction maps and inorganic NCERT tables.
- Track accuracy by chapter; revisit any chapter under 70%.
- PHASE 3
Full syllabus mocks
- Two full 180-question mocks a week at the 2 pm–5 pm slot.
- Re-read Biology NCERT in full every 4–6 weeks.
- Mistake notebook review every Sunday.
- PHASE 4
Final weeks
- Alternate-day mocks, NCERT Biology one last full read.
- OMR filling practice: bubble as you go, not at the end.
- Rest, sleep and document check (admit card, ID, photo).
A typical week
| Mon | Botany NCERT + 45 MCQs |
|---|---|
| Tue | Zoology NCERT + Physics numericals |
| Wed | Botany + physical chemistry |
| Thu | Zoology + Physics concepts |
| Fri | Biology revision + organic chemistry |
| Sat | Full or half mock + review |
| Sun | Recall cards, mistake notebook, rest |
Habits that hold up
- NCERT Biology is the syllabus: read the lines, captions and summaries.
- Diagrams are questions in disguise: label them from memory.
- Physics speed comes from daily numericals, not weekend marathons.
Start with a 50–30–20 split of learn, practise and revise, then let your own diagnostic results reshape it. joyjatra plans effort; it never predicts rank, cut-off or selection.
